TAMPAKAN COPPER-GOLD PROJECT
Picture taken in Tampakan Considerable effort has been directed in building and maintaining close working relationships with local communities and indigenous groups through regular dialogue in an open and transparent manner. Communication is achieved through regular meetings with representative bodies and through newsletters. Indophil and its Philippine partners are well aware of their position as the major employer in the Tampakan Project area and its social responsibility to all stakeholders. The activities of the Community Group have been widely recognised in the Philippines with its emphasis on employing world best available practices and they are repeatedly being requested to give presentations and advice to other groups on sustainable development programs.

In accordance with existing agreements in place with these local communities, significant funds have been released for community projects, especially in the area of education, health, community infrastructure and sustainable development projects. The funds have enabled free education to all children for those communities in the immediate Project area. An international community relations consultant with considerable experience in the region has commenced the preparation of the Social Responsibility Requirements for the EIS and concurrently an assessment of the existing community relations programs. The consultant is also coordinating a community survey in the form of a census of indigenous and surrounding communities to assess household numbers, income, education, health and expectations. The results of this survey will ensure that Indophil directs available funding in the areas most needed. Further, employment opportunities are preferentially given to local communities commensurate with their skills base and where qualified, contractors are sourced locally.

All indigenous groups now support the Project with the relationship documented in formal principal Agreements. Further, agreement was reached with all 5 Barangays and 2 Municipalities within the project area for minor amendments to their respective Principal Agreements following a required 5-year periodic review.
