The Philippines lies in the heart of South East Asia, spanning about 1,850 kilometers from north to south. Boasting of 7,107 islands across the Pacific and South China Sea, it has a total land area of 300,000 square kilometers; 1,830 of which is water. It is surrounded by the South China Sea, Philippine Sea, Sulu Sea, Celebes Sea and Luzon Strait. Its coastline is approximated at no less than 36,300 kilometers.

Taiwan, China and Hong Kong are northern neighbors and further north is Japan; to the west are Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand; southward is Malaysia and way down the archipelago sits Indonesia.

The country is divided into three geographical areas: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. It has 17 regions, 79 provinces, 115 cities, 1,499 municipalities. The capital city is Manila.

The highest mountain is Mt. Apo at 2,954 meters, and the deepest point is the Philippine Deep pegged at 11,518 meters below sea level.
